MARIEK (Marija Mitrović) is a trans-genre sound artist, contemporary pianist, and multimedia practitioner based in Montenegro. Her work unfolds at the intersection of performance, sound art, and audiovisual installation, creating immersive environments that blur the boundaries between concert, ritual, and sensory experience.

Working with electronic synthesis, piano, modular systems, and traditional instruments, she constructs evolving sonic landscapes shaped by intuition, instability, and transformation. Her performances move between ambient electronics, experimental composition, and Balkan-rooted textures, guiding audiences into states of heightened perception and presence.

Mitrović holds a Master’s degree in contemporary piano, with studies in Montenegro, Düsseldorf, and Ljubljana, focusing on spectral music and expanded approaches to piano sound. Her interdisciplinary practice spans performance, composition, film, and theater.

She has presented her work internationally across Europe and participated in platforms such as the Ljubljana Jazz Festival and enCORE (Berlin). In 2021, she was selected as Montenegro’s first representative for the OneBeat residency.

Her recent work explores the social potential of sound and transmediality, developing ritual-like performances that merge acoustic and electronic elements. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a composer for theater and film, and as an educator.
