About
Marija Mitrović (MARIEK) is a Montenegrin sound artist, contemporary pianist, composer, and interdisciplinary practitioner working across performance, moving image, and installation.
Rooted in contemporary piano and experimental music, her practice has gradually expanded beyond the concert format toward transmedial works that combine sound, image, space, and participation. Through these forms, she explores questions of identity, perception, communication, and collective experience, examining how social, technological, and cultural structures shape human presence and relationships.
Her projects often unfold as immersive environments in which sound functions not only as artistic material, but also as a medium for encounter, reflection, and transformation. Moving between composition, performance, documentary, audiovisual installation, and participatory formats, she investigates the spaces between individual and collective experience, stability and change, presence and absence.
In a world driven by hyperproduction and instant gratification, her practice creates spaces for slowing down and sustained attention. These works invite audiences into presence - where sound, image, and space unfold gradually, engaging the senses and opening a moment of shared perception and reflection, where attention itself becomes a form of connection.
